The book presents a complete history of the preparation and implementation of the platinum coinage project, supplementing it with previously unknown evidence from the funds of historical archives, which also made it possible to highlight the anthropological aspect. We were able to identify reliable examples of payment with a platinum coin, its receipt of a salary, establish the actual time of the start of circulation, distribution to the regions, as well as a number of interesting cases in the process of withdrawing these coins from circulation. Particular attention is paid to the peculiarities of the existence of platinum coins in Ukraine, which has acquired its own unique differences from other regions of the former empire. The example of the use of platinum coins by banks also demonstrates the negative policy of tsarism in the banking sector, while the Ukrainian society of that time used democratic and European values, adhered to the law, and was also distinguished by thrift and financial literacy.
There are numerous non-authentic samples of platinum coins on the collector's market. The book provides advice on detecting antique counterfeits of platinum coins with an example of professional expertise using modern measuring equipment – a scanning electron microscope, an X-ray fluorescence analyzer and hydrostatic scales.
The book is aimed at numismatists and researchers of the history of money circulation among museum workers, teachers of higher education institutions, art experts, collectors, owners and participants of official numismatic auctions and all those who are not indifferent to history around the world.
